How to Measure a Child
Chest/Bust
Have your child stand with his/her arms out to the sides. Measure at the fullest part of the chest/bust over underclothes. Your tape measure should be snug, but not tight. It should also be parallel to the floor.
Waist
Have you child stand with his/her arms out to the sides. Measure over underclothes at the smallest part of the waist. Again, your tape measure should be snug, but not tight and parallel to the floor. When measuring for a belt, add 2" to this measurement for belt size.
Hip
Have your child stand comfortably and measure over underwear at the fullest part of the seat/hips. Keep the tape measure parallel to the floor. As with other measurements, the tape measure should be snug, but not tight.
Inseam
Have your child stand up straight with his/her legs slightly apart. Your child should wear socks but no shoes. Measure from the crotch, along the leg to the floor. Subtract 1 1/2" from this number for the inseam measurement.
